Nine thousand jobs have been created in Portugal by the Portuguese shoe industry since 2010. Intending to further increase this number, the Portuguese Footwear, Components, Leather Goods Manufacturers’ Association (APICCAPS) has put a talent hunting campaign into motion.
The goal is attracting young Portuguese people who wish to join “Europe’s sexiest industry”, as described by the Association itself. This is one of the first results of APICCAPS’ new presidency, with Luís Onofre, a Portuguese designer, as president.
In a statement the association explains that promoting technical skills in the sector is one of the main priorities within next three years. To do so, actions aiming to encourage training, promote international traineeships and launch an entrepreneurship program, among other things, are expected to be developed.
